The work of Matteo Levaggi combines the double influence of Balanchine and Cunningham and adds an astute topical touch to this solid theoretical/esthetic base. Like his contemporaries Benjamin Millepied, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne MacGregor, and before them Angelin Preljocaj, he bears the legacy of these masters in his genes. Mesh, a show specially created for the Centro Pecci of Prato, captures both movement, film projections, sound effects, and scenic elements. The choreography creates a link between the dancing body and nature, which is represented here by objects/junk, creating an atmospheric, visionary landscape. With these emotionally-charged elements, we meet again on stage the “artistic couple” Matteo Levaggi and Elisabetta Guttuso, who made their debut at the 21st Milan Triennale at the Pirelli Hangar Bicocca in the piece Yvonne, with the Ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi.

The End of the World
The Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art, a center devoted to presenting, collecting, documenting and supporting all Arts, and one of the most important museums of Contemporary Art in Italy, reopened in October 2016 after the completion of the futuristic spaceship-shaped extension by the Rotterdam-based Indonesian architect Maurice Nio. On the occasion of its inauguration, the center presented the exhibition The End of the World, curated by director Fabio Cavallucci with the cooperation of a large group of international advisors including Elena Agudio, Antonia Alampi, Luca Barni, Myriam Ben Salah, Marco Brizzi, Lorenzo Bruni, Jota Castro, Wlodek Goldkorn, Katia Krupennikova, Morad Montazami, Giulia Poli, Luisa Santacesaria, Monika Szewczyk and Pier Luigi Tazzi.
Through the works of over 50 international artists in a showing that spanned the entire exhibition area of the museum - over 3000 square meters - the exhibition projected the audience thousands of light-years away to view our current world as if it were a fossil, geological eras from the present time, resulting in a feeling of being suspended in a limbo between a now distant past and a still distant future. Throughout the exhibition, many expressions and artistic languages were interconnected: music, theatre, cinema, architecture, and dance represented not just as side events but as integral moments of the show, helping to build an immersive and captivating narrative. I curated an on-going programme of dance and theatre involving local and international artists.
