Movement Notation

From Computer Dance to Nota-Anna: theory and practice

A theoretical-practical workshop held by artist Analívia Cordeiro dedicated to the theme of theoretical formalization of a universal language for the transcription of dance and, more generally, of movement. Dance is an ephemeral art by its nature, which today can be documented and transmitted through video shooting, but which in the past was not possible to "preserve" over time. Thanks to musical notation (transposition of the music into scores) it has been possible to pass down the scores through history: the pieces of the past can be reread and interpreted with precision and fidelity to the original work. On the contrary, many historical choreographies have been lost as the movement is extemporaneous, it gets lost, it evaporates in the air. This ambiguous and complex reality of dance shows the need for a notation of movement, whose main objective is to faithfully reconstruct the choreographies without the need for a video shoot.
