The Florence Dance Festival in collaboration with Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi (contemporary art museum) was able to bring the works of the late, pioneering post-modern choreographer Trisha Brown to new audiences thanks to a site-responsive, outdoor performance, held in the ancient courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi in Florence (Italy). The event was part of Trisha Brown Dance Company’s engagements with presenters worldwide to explore outdoor spaces such as the High Line in New York and Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. In the magnificent Renaissance setting of the courtyard, the company presented its Early Works which are a selection of choreographies, of bare and essential practice, and of variable duration composed between 1970 and 1973. With her anti-narrative work, Brown broke the traditional codes of representation by creating a new choreographic language that was admired in all its beauty thanks to the unique architectural setting. The company was in Italy for its last tour before closing and the events in Florence marked the last show ever in the world.
